Fuzzy Plant Finder?

  • Dec. 21st, 2009 at 11:45 PM
My fiance has always wanted the plant Stachys byzantina aka Lamb's Ear for whatever reason but I have always disregarded it. Tomorrow we're exchanging gifts and I'd like this to be one of them. Because all the stores are closed right now, and I don't feel like running around early tomorrow morning blindly looking for a small fuzzy plant, has anyone seen this plant in any store recently? Preferably in the Lake City or U-District Area?? Thanks so much!

O Christmas Tree?

  • Dec. 21st, 2009 at 11:22 PM
I just came home for the holidays, and have been charged with buying a Christmas tree for my parents. My mom says she doesn't want to pay $80 for a tree, but they're not broke either, so I don't want to spend a lot of time driving somewhere to get one for super cheap/free either.

They live in the Broadview/Bitter Lake area. Anyone have any tips for places in the Ballard/North Seattle/Shoreline area where I might pick up a 6' tree at a reasonable price? What is a reasonable price?

Christmas Dinners in Seattle

  • Dec. 21st, 2009 at 7:25 PM
Hi all - I checked memories and the most recent post on this is 5 years old. Googling brought up similar forum posts as old.

After trying to figure out what to make for our mom for Christmas Dinner, my sister decided she'd rather eat out. I know I can expect most places in the ID to be open, but we're looking for either seafood or general American fare (steaks, chicken, etc). Price range probably around $20-$25 a plate.

Anyone know of what might be open? I've called Anthony's and Broadway Grill but both are closed. I'll continue trying other places (including hotel restaurants) but thought I'd also check in here.

Thanks everyone!

Dr Parnassus on Xmas

  • Dec. 21st, 2009 at 11:04 AM
Hey Seattle. So, a friend and I want to spend the day Friday seeing movies. The three we would like to see are Avatar, Sherlock Holmes, and The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus (the last being the one I would like to see most.) My google-fu has turned up tons of theaters that are showing Avatar and Sherlock Holmes, but none so far that will be showing Dr Parnassus.

Does anyone know if this will be out anywhere in Seattle on Friday? Am probably willing to go to a different theater to see it if I have to, though it would be nice to stay put.

Thanks!

Edit: Apparently I'm dumb (and my coffee hasn't kicked in) and it's limited release till January.

Boo-urns.

A Dirty Problem

  • Dec. 21st, 2009 at 2:02 PM
We've all heard it: our stores are constantly running out of things we need: hot lids, syrups, etc. It's a grievance that we all have, that ruins our morale and that gives our customers the impression that we (as opposed to corporate) are incompetent.

My complaint is related, but a little different, as it's not about what doesn't seem to come no matter how many times we order them, but rather what my SM refuses to order:

Cleaning supplies.

We are always short on sanitizer fluid, spirit spray, the liquid for the dishwasher, glass cleaner, scrub pads, EVERYTHING. And you know why? Because my SM doesn't want to bother. We're always scrambling to find ways to get things clean, but he doesn't seem to care at all. The lack of dish gloves are an especial complaint for me: my skin, already sensitive from a medication I'm taking, is BURNING off. Sanitizer can be a carcinogen, our dispenser is broken and giving off far too much of the concentrated chemical, and I was in so much pain yesterday. I am so sick to death of this. More than that, he gets ANGRY at us if we're consistently using our cleaners, like its too much of a hassle to order more.

WE CAN'T RUN A STORE IF WE DON'T HAVE CLEANING SUPPLIES. QASA WILL SHUT US DOWN, YOU ASSHOLE. AND YOU WILL ONLY HAVE YOURSELF TO BLAME.

The day in Chutzpah Parking

Gee, that coffee at Citizen sure is tasty, innit? Oh, but the parking situation down there! What's a dye-job BMW driver to do: she wants that coffee, but she can't find a spot to park her 5-series.

Why not pull into the little gas station on the corner, on the other side of the pumps where the register jockey can't see her, then put the nozzle in the car and pull up the handle into the locked position so it looks like someone's fueling, but just went inside for a minute -- then go over and enjoy that wonderful coffee? Brilliant!

You fucking cunt.

So, how's everyone's supply of Caramel Brule sauce? We've been out for a week and my SM told me it was a company-wide shortage. Wasn't sure if she simply meant district or what.

EDIT: This isn't related, but I didn't want to double-post. I got a text message from my SM literally after posting this that we just got a 90% score from Ecosure! WOO! Go Store 5734!!!

21 inches of snow and no residential roads cleared, yet DM decided we should open at 9 today. Except we get there and surprise, our brewer is broken. No coffee and the hot water tap is soon depleted. Guess we're closing after all!

A few minutes ago, someone asked my coworker, "Does that Gingerbread Latte taste like gingerbread?"

Um . . .

nutcracker

  • Dec. 19th, 2009 at 9:29 PM
shelled out some duckets and took the little lady to see the nutcracker thing today.

she was all "i don't want to see this" and i was all "you're going to love it" and she was all "no i won't"

i had heard a lot about this thing. "you have to see it" they said. "it's awesome" they said.

in the end, she was right.

my review: a few hours of people dancing around making unintelligible gestures.

how say you?

Anyone else in the mid-Atlantic open late and/or close early? Have half of the scheduled partners no-call no-show? Get stuck not once, not twice, but three times on the way home from your shift?

Holiday help needed.

Does anyone know where I can find a Festivus pole in Seattle, preferably a cheap one, as I don't want to spend too much more on one when you can steal a tree for free. Also, has anyone seen any of the Ben and Jerry's limited edition Festivus ice cream?

Did anyone see this?

Wasn't this one of the collection of pictures someone posted recently?

Avatar at Seattle Center

  • Dec. 18th, 2009 at 7:29 PM
The most expensive movie every made is selling out fast at Seattle Center. If you see this film in this venue, let me know if it rules or not.
I've come to the realization that the majority of customers see the float as simply the person taking pastry/sandwich orders. I can't count how many times during the course of a normal morning shift that I'm floating and ask someone what I can get for them only to have them give me their pastry order, then upon asking if I can get them anything else have them tell me no, then once they get to the register they order, like, three drinks. Note to self: turn "Can I get you anything else this morning?" into "Anything to drink this morning?"

Have you seen this?

  • Dec. 18th, 2009 at 1:29 PM
Walking around on my lunch, I happened across this woman:

She may look nothing more than your typical bag lady, but take another look at her head:

That is a bird. In fact, I believe it is a pigeon. It looks like a young one because when she would take off on her scooter it would flap its wings around trying to keep its balance and it looked like its feather hadn't all come in yet. I don't know if it was just gripping on to dear life staying on or if she had tied its feet down.

It was crazy. I wanted to get a closer picture but she wheeled away.

Have you seen this?
